If in doubt..
As I was pondering possibilities for the newsletter yesterday, this rainbow appeared. The unusual thing about this rainbow, was that someone was burning off right where the rainbow seemed to touch the land. The pot of gold was on fire! Having an active imagination, I began to wonder all the potential readings that could be derived from this image if it was an oracle card.
What is your first thought? This to me is the most interesting thing. What we each see is so individual.

Inner Knowing
As you may know, I sometimes use oracle cards in kinesiology balances. What I've noticed is, the same image on a card can be viewed by 10 different people and get 10 different responses. Sometimes an image can elicit a specific feeling or a memory of a person or event in the past. It can touch a place of inner knowing that conveys an instant message without any help from the thinking mind. The message is completely unique to that person. Other times there may not even be words to accompany the sense of knowing. It's like a sensation of a space opening up inside. And of course, there are occasions when you see an image and think "I have no idea at all!"
Whilst it would be lovely to live with constant clarity and feel in touch with our inner knowing at all times, we must also go through passages of confusion and doubt in our lives. It is easy to view doubt as the enemy that obscures our inner knowing, but what if it's the opposite?
What if doubt indicates the presence of knowing?

A New Perspective on Doubt
This was the understanding I had when reading some Buddhist teachings recently. The idea was that doubt can only arise from a place of knowing. Because there is knowing, doubt exists. Doubt cannot exist independently.
It's probably similar to the idea of hot not existing without cold, happiness not existing without sadness etc. In any case, since reading that, doubt no longer feels such a dubious thing :) If doubt begins buzzing in my mind like a pesky fly, I can welcome it as a friend that inspires me to turn inwards, in search of the knowing within.
Particularly when we find ourselves at a crossroads in life, we can go into a desperate search for answers, wishing someone would tell us what to do... Advice can be invaluable at times and other's viewpoints can open us to new possibilities we can't see ourselves. Ultimately however, it still comes back to us.
We still have to decide what feels good and right for us. We still need to trust ourselves who to trust and whose advice to take on board. We still can't escape the stuff of our minds and the feelings we'd rather not feel along the way.
If you are open to life being a teacher and all that happens in your life as a teaching, then there can be no right or wrong choices. We learn and grow from each experience and each new choice we make leads to new experiences and more learning and growth.
In conclusion?
Being able to trust yourself is gold.
And if in doubt,
Befriend it :)
